Alongside a view of the station area of Brentwood as seen during the late sixties. A time before the building of vast office blocks and when British Rail still had a fully working goods and coal yard. In the background can be seen part of the lower end of Kings Road and some of the shops that used to be such a feature of local life. Also on view are two local pubs, the Railway Taven on the far side of the road and on the goods yard side the Railway Hotel. This indeed was a small hotel in it's early years but during the sixties gained local fame as the home of the Brentwood Folk Club where Paul Simon used to appear weekly when he lived close by. This view was taken from the top of the victoria road flats.
Alongside another view of Brentwood stations old goods yard in the late sixties. In this view an old mixed goods train can been seen making its way towards Shenfield. This mixed goods were able to drop their various tracks at local station goods yards along their route - yards that have long gone. Behind the train can be seen the yard where a coal train is being unloaded. Behind all this activity is the site of the Brentwood Gas works at that time also used as a workshop and distribution centre.
