AUDIO ARCHIVES LODGED WITH ESSEX COUNTY RECORDS OFFICERecently handed over to Mrs Sue Cubbins of the audio department of the Essex Records Office in Chelmsford was this trolly load of my audio archives that date back to 1964. Divided into two separate donations, the first comprised my entire archive of field and broadcast studio recordings of folk music that had been recorded of Essex based artists and bands along with field recordings from many Essex Folk clubs over the last thirty five years or so. The second donation consists of my more journalistic broadcast work with examples of reportage and features about various activities in the County of Essex. You could call this a gift to future generations, or if I am to be completely honest a rather crafty way of gaining some extra room around the house. But one of the prime reasons for the donation is that the archive will, I hope prove to be a valuable source of information for future social historians wanting to know about the state of folk music in the county as well as the way we lived our lives at the latter end of the twentieth century.
