Each and every one of them the same, a bit of waste land, or Some backyard gone to seed. But bring in the team of experts, and within hours, we have a garden Homes and Gardens magazine would be proud to feature. For gone is the edge to edge lawn and garden Shed. Instead, here the little patio, complete with bar-B-Q area. There, the raised flower beds, all overlooking the winding shingled path leading the visitor toward that obligatory bit of trellis work or gazebo and that oh so wonderful garden water feature. Now these used to be little ponds, covered by a bit of wire netting to keep the fish loving next door cat away from the goldfish. But not any longer, for now powered by electric pumps the water bubbles up to trickle over a bed of stones, sand and other materials before flowing into a shallow pool. Goldfish it seems are a thing of the past. Now I don't know about Water features, but I do have my own nature given water feature. This takes the form of a roof, from which the water, runs down into a gutter, where a large hole permits it to pour down the wall into a kitchen drain, that already blocked with gunge allows it to overflow again, to run in a river over the cracked weed encrusted strip of concrete that passes for a patio into another blocked drain, to form within minutes a six inch deep lake. Yet more water for this un-designed feature is provided by the dripping overflow pipe, to produce a wild life swamp to delight the eye of any conservationist.. Now I wondering if I can get the lovely Charley from BBC's Ground force to come and sort it out for me ! ENDS |
