Newspaper editors thoughout the area were said to be shocked and ashen faced over comments alledged to have been made by an aging local journalist. Fellow drunken hacks said the outburst by freelance journalist Dennis Rookard, came during a drinking contest between hanks and councillors after a late night council meeting. This week his actions were slammed by leading councillors and party chiefs. One who did not wish to be named said "I was shocked. This was not the not the sort of things we want to hear." A fellow Journalist told this reporter that the splat came after one councillor waved a wad of ten pound notes in the air before a group of jornalists, yelling "have you seen my expences !"

"Rookard is alleged to have hit back at the councillor by shouting, "What about the tax payer then". Then to loud cheers from his grinning friends the councillor - a leading member of his party, shocked the journalists by crying... "we're only in it for the money." Police who were called to deal with the fight that followed, said that the pub resembled a battle field. Late this week, a leading newspaper editor said, "it just shows that the life of a freelance journalist can be hell."
